My Fave Monday, My Craft Room...Again...

Image
I realize this is all starting to seem a bit narcissistic at this point but bear with me.  My room is nearly done minus the mirror I am currently spray painting to match and the decorative trim that still needs to be placed around the baseboards... No more carpet! Who'd a thunk in ten days we could tile over 1000 feet all by ourselves?  Certainly not me!  Mostly because I had not intended to help in the least.  Not so much because I didn't want to, well maybe, but more because I know what the inevitable outcome would be if my husband and I were forced to work "together".  There is no question we'd have fun... It's more like what happens after the fun.  My idea of working is different than his.  I like to say I'm  a doer and not a sayer, which is good for getting things done but not so good at all the planning involved in between.  He, on the other hand, would like to tell me the whys, hows and explanations of pretty much everything that includes

My Fave Monday...My Craft Room

I am very fortunate.  I realize the simple fact that I can allocate a complete room to my artistic nonsense  is a blessing upon itself because I once was a closet, dining room only craftier/artist.  I get the disconnect...to those of us who can go full speed ahead on a project because we've got the room to do it.  I get it.  You don't have to 'splain it to me.  I'm on your side, you see... So, Now that I start to complain about my immediate circumstance, don't get your panties all in a bunch over it! It happens, especially when you get used to having your own space. My husband decided to re tile our entire downstairs yesterday.  I know, it wasn't a decision that he just willy nilly came up with out of the blue and without consulting me.  I knew it was coming.  I guess I didn't realize the extent of demolition involved, especially since I started altering a cigar box and signed up for an online art class all on the same day last week. Really, I tho

Faux metal technique

Us artists/crafters know a thing or two about how to make things seem real when they're really faked to look that way, Ala the "distress or vintage" look.  We can take a nice piece of paper, ink, stamp and spray it  into something liken to an acid filled environment from a hundred years ago.  Even if you're a newbie to crafting or "distressing", I'm certain there's a hundred YouTube videos out there that can teach you this technique and even the one I'm about to share with you now.  The more I make things the more I like making them look something they totally didn't look like to begin with. Which brings me to a little something I made simply because I didn't have the intended product at hand.  I really like the Tim Holtz metal photo corners that I've seen on several peoples' projects but I've just never thought of actually taking the plunge and making the purchase. I think it's more the fact that they retail for $7.9

My Fave Monday...Challenges

Image
Okay...I admit, I'm highly competitive.  I attribute that fact to being the youngest of seven siblings.  There's just no getting away from a competitive spirit when you grow up having to claim things as "yours" so nobody else in the house will take them. One of my favorite comedians says it best... I know, it has nothing to do with crafting or what my favorite is this Monday but it cracks me up just the same! Lately, my biggest challenge has been getting myself to craft or write pretty much anything these past few weeks.  It's like my Mojo bypassed the front door, opting for the quick getaway, right out the window!  I could have swore it said, "Sayonara Dude!" on it's merry way out, giving no clue as to when it will be back! I missed it at first and like any other codependent relationship, I blamed myself.  Then I realized it had nothing to do with me and more to do with life and it's inconvenient circumstances.  It happens
